Charles Young

Principal of Madera Residential

Charles started investing in multifamily during 1991, buying a twenty-four-unit complex in Andrews, TX out of the RTC with two other partners. He worked full time for Roche Pharmaceuticals in sales, sales training, district sales management, and business unit manager from 1987 until 1996. In 1996, he joined Hurt & Stell to oversee the property management supporting the owned portfolio of 860 units for the two partners.

The partnership continued to buy small 16-unit to medium size 250-unit multifamily projects. In 1998, Charles oversaw the growth of fee management that spread from West Texas to DFW, Houston, Arizona, Florida, and Indiana. From 1998 until 2006, the fee managed portfolio was over 6,000 units. This was the beginning of Charles’ building skills in new markets and value add repositioning.

July of 2008 was the beginning of purchasing assets with the new partnership of Madera Residential, with a 396-unit acquisition in Baytown, TX. Since 2008, Madera has acquired roughly $1.25 billion of multifamily assets in 80 plus apartment communities. All of these acquisitions have been from heavy to light value add reposition. Charles’ current partnership responsibilities include acquisitions, debt strategy, equity, and asset management.
